A Guardia Civil report confirms that a fire at the Hotel Playa Esperanza in Playa de Muro was caused by a short circuit in the spa.
Some 700 guests were evacuated when the fire broke out on Thursday. No guests or staff were affected by the fire, which nevertheless caused extensive damage.
After the fire was put out, guests were able to return to the hotel.
