Optimism for German tourism in the autumn

Optimism for German tourism in the autumn
By Majorca Daily Bulletin reporter

The DRV travel association in Germany says that Spain no longer being classified as a high-risk travel area is "good news", especially for families with children under the age of 12 years. Prior to the change in travel advice by the German government, unvaccinated travellers had to quarantine on return, and this included the under-12s, who are not part of the vaccination programme.

The association states that the change of classification is a significant relief for families for what remains of the summer holidays and also for the autumn holidays.

There has been some inaccuracy in reports referring to the end of the school holidays in Germany and therefore an end to family tourism. The German states have different holidays, and schools in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg don't go back until the 13th and 11th of September, respectively.

DRV adds that Mallorca and other Mediterranean destinations are very popular in late summer and during the autumn school breaks. There has been a flurry of last-minute bookings for the late summer. Meanwhile, cycling tourism, for which Germany is a key market, is set to reactivate in Mallorca this autumn.
