Spanish residents holidaying in Canaries should get rewards

The Canary Islands tourist associations – Ashotel, FEHT, FTL and Asofuer – are advocating that tourists from the mainland who choose the archipelago for a break this summer should be rewarded.  They say this is a measure that can contribute, as is already being done in other European territories, to the revival of tourism . In essence, it is a matter of giving a maximum discount on the price of a plane ticket for Spanish tourists who want to come to the Canary Islands this summer, within a reference period (for example, from July 1 to September 30). “It would be a great stimulus for national tourists (from the peninsula, Ceuta, Melilla, Balearic Islands and the other Canary Islands) and for the sector that acts as the locomotive of the economy in the archipelago,” says Ashotel.Employers point out that minimum spending limits and deductible items could be established but in any case this measure is an incentive for the economy. For this, the tourism employers consider that the item that the State allocates each year to discount the resident discount on air transport could be used, and that in these almost three months since the state of alarm was decreed in the country, hardly any discounts have been used due to the impossibility of travelling without restrictions. Along with this measure, the hoteliers insist that the opening of borders to international air traffic, fixed as of June 21, the date of the end of the state of alarm, must also be accompanied by other security measures at source, such as the test to all tourists who want to fly to the Canary Islands, as well as the deployment of a traceability app to have the guarantee of the movements of tourists and residents.
